Former Kilmarnock boss joins Hayden in the Col U dugout

15 June 2021

Colchester United have appointed Alex Dyer as assistant to Hayden Mullins for the upcoming 2021/22 Sky Bet League Two season.

The fifty-five-year-old joins the U's as assistant coach to Hayden Mullins, after leaving Socttish Premiership side Kilmarnock earlier this year.

Formerly an assistant manager alongside Chris Powell at Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town, Dyer has also coached at West Ham, Welling United and Whitehawk.

A long playing career stretching from the mid 1980s to the early 2000s saw Dyer make over 500 appearances for a host of clubs including Blackpool, Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic.

Speaking to Col U TV following his appointment, Dyer said he was delighted to be at Colchester United for the upcoming season.

"When I got a chance to join up with Hayden again, we are always speaking on the phone, and he asked me if I wanted to help out and I do.

"I spoke to Hayden in February, but there wasn't an opportunity then, but I have jumped at the chance to work with him ahead of next season."
