Hannant Makes U's Switch

Versatile midfielder joins from recently promoted Cambridge United

10 June 2021

Colchester United have signed Luke Hannant from Cambridge United, with the midfielder penning a two year contract at the JobServe Community Stadium.

The twenty seven year old joins from recently promoted Cambridge United, for whom Luke played forty eight times last season.

Originally hailing from Norfolk, Hannant's career started in the non-league with Gateshead and South Shields before making the switch to Football League side Port Vale in 2018.

Making sixty eight appearances for the Valiants across an eighteen month spell, Hannant hit five goals, before joining fellow League Two club Cambridge United at the start of the 2019/20 season.

Luke's first season at the Abbey Stadium included twenty nine appearances and one goal, with his second more prolific for Mark Bonner's promoted U's.

Appearing in all but three of Cambridge United's league games, Hannant made a total of forty eight appearances, scoring seven goals as his side secured a second place finish and promotion to the third tier of English Football.

But after joining Colchester United on a two year deal, Hannant is excited to be a part of a new challenge with the U's.

"Last season was obviously a good one for me and Cambridge, being able to get a promotion under the belts was a great achievement for us all."

"But I was ready for a different challenge. I feel I'm an established League Two player now and the project that the manager said is in place for this season is something I really want to be a part of."
