Salford City Preview

U's interim boss Wayne Brown's thoughts on the next game

16 March 2021

Colchester United complete their trio of away games with a trip to the Peninsula Stadium, where recently crowned Papa John's Trophy Champions Salford City await.

After their goalless draw at the weekend with bottom side Grimsby Town, Colchester United remained in twentieth position in League Two, while their next opponents Salford City are pushing for a top seven spot.

The Ammies weren't in league action on Saturday afternoon, instead enjoyed a trip to the capital and Wembley Stadium, where they overcame Portsmouth to lift the Papa John's Trophy. Winning the game on penalties, perhaps Colchester United could benefit from Richie Wellens' side playing an additional half hour, as well as the energy spent in celebrating the win.

But interim Colchester United boss Wayne Brown says the U's must focus on themselves in the fixture.

"We stuck together as a group on Saturday, and showed good character and that pleased me the most." - Wayne Brown

"There was good togetherness, and we had to dig in, as we will have to do against Salford.

"We have to start scoring when we are on top in games. It's a numbers game, that if we keep creating, goals will come.

"We's be bang in trouble if we weren't creating, but we are and the goals will come."
