U's fans showing their support from home

20 May 2021

Colchester United supporters have purchased more than 20,000 match passes during the 20/21 season.

Fans were only allowed in the JobServe Community Stadium for two matches throughout the campaign, and had to be content with watching on iFollow from afar for the remainder of the games.

For the matches at the JCS, U's fans purchased 10,492 individual match passes, excluding Seasonal Permit holders who were issued codes to watch each match on iFollow.

Colchester United also retained the first 500 purchases each match that away teams' supporters purchased for the games here in north Essex - 9368 passes were retained by the U's via this avenue.

For the away matches during the campaign, U's supporters purchased 9815 passes in total across the twenty three away league fixtures.

The first 500 for each of these matches went to the respective home clubs, but the U's did pick up an additional 1815 purchases.

On receiving the figures, which totalled 20,307 in U's fans' purchases, there was praise and thanks in equal measure from the club's General Manager.

Tim Waddington said: "I must say a big thank-you and well done to every single Colchester United supporter who purchased a pass or passes and backed the boys from the safety of their own homes."

"Of course it's never the same as attending the matches in person here at the Jobserve Community Stadium and across the country, but I hope that the fans understand that the players and staff knew that they were watching and were really appreciative of the support.

"At a time when finances were stretched for a lot of people, we as a club are also very thankful for the financial help the purchases of the iFollow product gave us in a season without any other matchday income. Well done to every fan who purchased.

"Hopefully, we will not only see all our fans back in the stadiums in 2021/22 but also see them watching on iFollow when they can't make it to a game in person."

Every purchase made has been registered on supporters' Col U Tickets account and will go into a draw to win the eighteen matchworn shirts that the squad used in the Southend game in April.

This draw will take place in due course, and tokens that were also gained by purchases can still be redeemed on your Col U Tickets account for various Col U merchandise.
