Tranmere Rovers Preview

Hayden Mullins thoughts on the last U's game of the season

7 May 2021

U's boss wants his side to finish the season on a high, after securing Football League safety last weekend.

Colchester United travel to Tranmere for the final game of the 2020/21 season knowing they will be playing in the Football League next season after securing their position with an important win over play-off chasing Salford City last weekend.

But the hosts for Saturday's game are still in the running for something this season. Keith Hill's side need a point to secure a top seven finish and continue their season in the play-offs.

Although Colchester United have little to gain from the match against Tranmere Rovers, U's boss Hayden Mullins still wants his side to continue the good work they have shown since he took over at the start of April.

"We want to finish it right. We owe the league that, we need to prepare right and we need to be as strong as we can be." - Hayden Mullins

"I think we need to try and carry the momentum that we've had in the last couple of weeks forward, and it's important that we do that, and we finish as well as we can.

"We've set a standard now (with three wins in four), and hopefully it's one that the players have been following.

"Tranmere Rovers are a good side, we know that. They're up there on merit, they're up there because they've done well this season and they have players that can hurt you. They are a dangerous side and they need to get a result."
