Want to represent your local professional football club and study A-Levels and/or BTEC qualifications at the same time?
The Colchester United Football in the Community Football College Programme based at Thurstable Sports College & 6th Form offers students aged 16-19 years the opportunity to train full time, represent Colchester United in the EFL Community & Education Football Alliance against other professional club affiliated colleges and study A Level and BTEC further education courses to support their future pathways.
On Thursday 11th November 2021 Thurstable Sports College & 6th form will be open to Year 11 & 12 students to taste what is on offer on the Football College Programme with a Training Session and Open Evening to take a look of what education is on offer.
From 3.30-5pm a Showcase Training session will be held for students to come and experience the coaching on offer on the programme with the Colchester United Football in the Community Staff.
From 6.00-7.30pm students will have the opportunity to look around Thurstable and ask Teachers and Coaches questions around what footballing and educational opportunities are available to them.
Louis Dunne, a former Colchester United First Team player now Head Coach on the programme detailed “With our up and coming Open Evening coming up, it is a great opportunity for talented footballs from the area to come and see the high quality football and educational opportunities that are available for them here at Thurstable and Colchester United. This expands to all the additional support available from gym, sports science, nutrition, analysis, coaching, volunteering, work experience, further education, employment and footballing pathways available to each student. If you want to be treated like a scholar at a professional club and further yourself on the pitch, in the classroom, as a person and for the future – this is the programme for you!”
Joe Peachey, the Football College Captain shared “The opportunity to join the Col U Football programme @ Thurstable was a great decision for me. To be part of a squad, compete at a high level representing Colchester United and have the pathways available is something you can’t turn down. With high quality coaching and teaching to support my studies, I’m in a good place to move forward both on the pitch in senior football and off it onto higher education and employment.”
