Match Preview | Harrogate Town (H)

Colchester United host second placed Sulphurites on Saturday

14 October 2021

The top scorers in Sky Bet League Two are in town on Saturday afternoon, as Simon Weaver's Harrogate Town visit the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester United are still on the hunt for an elusive first league win of the season, with the next opponents in sight for Hayden Mullins' side on Saturday afternoon.

The U's were beaten 2-0 in their last match, on Friday night away at Tranmere Rovers, but will be looking to put that behind them with a win this weekend.

Two second half goals earned the hosts three points, as United dropped to twentieth in the table, this weekend welcoming second placed Harrogate Town to North Essex.

Mullins and Dyer should have a couple more players to choose from with the likes of Tommy Smith and Armando Dobra returning, while they will check on the fitness of Charlie Daniels ahead of the fixture.

The Opposition

Harrogate Town have hit the ground running this season and shown the rest of the division that they are serious contenders for promotion from the fourth tier.

After a seventeenth place finish, comfortably finishing above the relegation zone in their first season as an EFL club last campaign, this season they have started spectacularly well. As the league's top goal scorers, Weaver's side have hit twenty-three in eleven games, losing just once in the league.

Possessing two of the top scorers has helped with Luke Armstrong and Jack Muldoon netting twelve times between them. Last time out they thumped Scunthorpe United 6-1 at Wetherby Road, winning 5-0 at half time.

Armstrong arrived at Harrogate for an undisclosed fee from Salford City, with a further six additions to the squad in the summer. Mark Oxley joined from Southend United after the Shrimpers' relegation, with Danilo Orsi-Dadomo one of the top scorers in the National League also making the move to the Yorkshire club.

Speaking after their 6-1 victory last week, Harrogate boss Simon Weaver said that his side were the best he'd seen them.

"We've reached a new level. It was a real delight. We have to keep going, replicating the honesty, attitude and leg work required. This should give the group confidence, that if we stick to the same way of playing - who knows what may happen."

Last Time We Met

The U's were well beaten by Harrogate Town in the last meeting between the two. Mark Beck scored in the opening minute, with Will Smith doubling the advantage just before half time. Tommy Smith hit the bar a minute after the break, but Josh McPake put the game beyond all doubt with Harrogate's third ten minuted into the second period.
