Match Preview | Tranmere Rovers

U's looking to extend unbeaten away run at Prenton Park

8 October 2021

Colchester United will head up to Tranmere Rovers looking to make it six games away from home without defeat on Friday at Prenton Park.

The away form for Hayden Mullins' side is stark in its contrast to last season's points tally on the road. With just one win away from the JobServe Community Stadium all season in the 2020/21 campaign, the U's have already put nine points on the board away from home this season.

Hayden and Alex will be hoping for a strong away performance similar to those seen at Oldham Athletic and Barrow, to add to Colchester United's points tally and move up the table.

The Opposition

After missing out on promotion in the play-offs last season, Rovers returned to the manager that secured them promotion from League Two last time around, with Micky Mellon returning to the helm at Prenton Park.

Sitting mid-table, Rovers have built their campaign on having a strong defence, conceding a minimal amount of goals in their opening league games. But finding goals hard to come by has stunted their performances.

After signing Callum Mcmanaman and Nicky maynard, it seems a little surprising to see the lack of goals throughout Rovers' team, but eight games with a score of 1-0 or 0-0 from their opening nine has seen them sitting steadily in mid table.

Last Time We Met

On the final day of the 2020/21 season, the U's headed up to Prenton Park with nothing to play for having already secured their safety, whereas Tranmere Rovers needed at least a point to guarantee a top-seven spot. Rovers seemed content to try and see out the draw from the off, with the U's not really putting them under pressure in a stalemate in the North West.
