Red Devils visit North Essex for upcoming Sky Bet League Two fixture

16 September 2021

Colchester United will host Crawley Town for the next fixture in Sky Bet League Two, looking to get a first home win of the season.

Following a brilliant win on the road at Barrow last weekend, Hayden Mullins' squad have had over a week to recover before taking part in their next game.

It was a hard fought victory up in Cumbria, but the U's came away with a valuable three points and will be looking to put in a similar performance on Saturday when Crawley Town visit the JobServe Community Stadium.

The U's will definitely be without centre-half Luke Chambers who was issued two yellow cards in the last match, although Tom Eastman returned to the team and scored the winning goal against Barrow last weekend.

The Opposition

Crawley Town have seen a steady start to their 2021/22 Sky Bet League Two campaign, with seven points in six games, sitting nineteenth in the table. John Yems' side bagged their second win of the season last weekend with a late win against Carlisle United, but have been inconsistent in the opening games so far.

Early league leaders, Forest Green Rovers, put six past Crawley in mid August, but the ship has been steadied since then with Saturday's visitors competing in each league game since.

Their last game saw a last minute winner from Nick Tsaroulla to snatch all three points at home to Carlisle, a result that was deserved according to the Crawley manager, John Yems.

"A couple of weeks ago, we might have given it up (when Carlisle scored), but it shows that we are coming back, we still haven’t got a fit squad to pick from.

“I keep telling the subs, whoever else is coming back from injury that it’s what we have to deal with, and if they keep showing the desire and the heart that we do have to have, then you will get results."

Crawley Town have seen the return of last season's second highest scorer, Tom Nichols who was struggling with injury. His first goal of the campaign came last weekend, where he also played seventy-five minutes and will be in contention against the U's this weekend.

Other players to keep an eye out for include Jake Hessenthaler, who played in every league game for the club last season, Glenn Morris, the experienced goalkeeper, and Southampton loanee Will Ferry who is spending the season with the club.

Last Time We Met

The hosts stole all three points late on in the last meeting between Crawley Town and Colchester United, with James Tilley on target. The game looked to be settling at 0-0, when Tilley rolled the ball home in the third minute of injury time to win it.
