U's 'keeper speaking ahead of trip to Barrow

9 September 2021

After making his debut for the club on Tuesday evening against Gillingham, Newcastle United loanee Jake Turner is looking ahead to the next Colchester United game.

Turner put in a solid performance between the sticks in the U's 1-0 defeat to Gillingham on Tuesday night, making a couple of excellent saves while commanding his presence in the penalty area throughout.

He could do nothing about the ninety-third minute goal that eventually sealed the game in favour of the visitors, but was still pleased with his performance and is now looking to kick on within the squad.

"We were frustrated on Tuesday night. It was always going to be difficult going down to ten men, but I thought it was a good performance from everyone and we were unlucky in the end.

"I'd made a few saves but the defenders in front of me had made it easy throughout the game so when I was called upon, I was happy to help when I could.

"Shamal's been doing great in the league, I feel like we've both been bouncing off eachother in training with Smudge (Darren Smith). We've been battling and it's been good, so I've just got to keep working hard in training and take my opportunity."
