Junior Tchamadeu has been named EFL League Two Apprentice of the Year.
The young defender received the award on Sunday night at the EFL Awards night in London, beating Stevenage's Alex Aitken and Ethan Brierley from Rochdale.
Junior made his debut for the U's first team as a sixteen year old against Grimsby in December 2020, and went on to make eleven appearances in the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
This season has been the youngster's real breakthrough campaign, making over thirty appearances.
A stand out moment for Junior was of course his late winner against Tranmere Rovers recently, a fantastic way to score a first goal in senior football.
Proving his versatility, he came on in that game as a substitute further up from his usual right back slot, having also played as a left back on occasions, most recently for part of the game at Newport County on Friday night.
The winners of the Championship and League One Apprentice awards were Coventry City’s Ryan Howley and Ayodeji Elerewe of Charlton Athletic respectively.
