Young Quartet Extend U's Time

Kennedy, Collins, Terry and Bennett pen contracts

25 April 2022

Youngsters Gene Kennedy, Ted Collins, Frankie Terry and Kaan Bennett have signed new contracts at Colchester United.

All four have been rewarded for their performances across the past season or two, and have extended their time at the club with new contracts ahead of the summer break.

They have all spent some time either training with the first team, or being involved in League Two football for the U's in what has been a difficult season.

Keeper Collins and midfielder Kennedy will be the more familiar, having both made first team appearances this season.

But as well as impressing in the U23s, both exciting winger Kaan Bennett and centre half Frankie Terry were heavily involved in the club's FA Youth Cup run, which saw the youngsters beat Arsenal before losing at St James Park to Premier League side Newcastle United.

Director of Football Tony Humes said: "All four deserve a lot of credit for their performances this season, and fully deserve their new contracts."

"They'll start their summer break in a couple of weeks, then I'm sure they'll be back for pre-season busting a gut to get involved with the first team.

"A lot of hard work has got them this far, but a lot more hard work will be needed to make that next difficult step."
