Colchester United Football in the Community has been delivering Activate Summer Camps over the summer holidays.
This summer programme has been funded by Active Essex, to provide children from low income families and children on free school meals the opportunity to take part in sporting and enrichment activities, whilst being provided with a meal each day.
Last week Colchester United players Al-Amin Kazeem, Ryan Clampin, Tom Dallison, Junior Tchamadeu and Alex Newby alongside U23’s players Bradley Ihionvien, Samson Tovide, Harvey Sayer and Benny Bioletti visited children on all 3 of our Activate venues, to join in with the children’s activities and answer their questions.
Activate Camps have been running at 3 venues in both Colchester and Maldon:
- Shrub End Community & Sports Centre
- Colchester Academy, Greenstead
- Maldon & Tiptree FC
So far this summer children aged 5-16 years have had the opportunity to attend the camps and engage in a variety of sports and enrichment activities including:
- Mini Golf
- Talent Shows
- Arts & Crafts
- Wellbeing Workshops
- Essex Police Visits
- Premier League Trophy Visit
This summer 5,184 places would have been available to support young people and their families over our 3 venues. This would’ve also included 5,184 meals provided for young people during the summer holiday.
We’d like to thank the Colchester United players for their visit and Active Essex and our venue staff for the support in being able to provide these opportunities to young people and their families within our communities.
We look forward to the rest of the summer, especially the visit of the Premier League Trophy to Activate next week - we will share that story with you in the coming weeks.
