U's back in action against Bantams on Tuesday evening

15 August 2022

Colchester United will be back in action on Tuesday evening, taking on Bradford City at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Wayne Brown's side were beaten 1-0 at Stockport County on Saturday afternoon, with Kyle Wootton grabbing the only goal of the game in the second half for the hosts.

The U's struggled to create much against a resilient home defence, but there was little to seperate the two sides according to Wayne Brown.

"There was nothing in the game really - yes they had more possession than us, they got into wide areas more than us, and they probably held more of a threat in the final third than us.

"But if you analyse the game and look at the chances created, we created little, but they didn't create much more."

The U's will once again check on the fitness of Alan Judge who has been missing from the last couple of games, as well as Cole Skuse who didn't make the trip to Stockport on Saturday.

The Opposition
Up against opposition that are expected to be fighting at the top end of the table again, Bradford City are the visitors to the JCS on Tuesday evening. Under the stewardship of Manchester United and Wales legend, Mark Hughes, the former Premier League manager has enjoyed a first full pre-season at Valley Parade.

Hughes' side picked up a first league win of the season on Saturday afternoon, adding to their Carabao Cup win against Hull City just a few days earlier.

The 2-0 victory over Newport County came courtesy of a Richie Smallwood winder-strike, with Harry Chapman's second-half goal ensuring the three points and win - with Hughes saying it was comfortable for his side.

"We probably could have created more chances in the second half, but we managed the game very easily, no real scares towards the end and very comfortable really.

"Good win and good goals, it was important to get the first home win, and we've kept the momentum. We're in a good place confidence-wise, back-to-back wins has done that for us.

"We now have a difficult game (vs Colchester United). We don't have good memories of, certainly not last year and we want to put that right."

City have been one of the most active clubs in League Two over the summer period, with fourteen new arrivals, three of which have been loans. Thirty-one-year-old Richie Smallwood has been one of the more prominent signings, with the former Hull City, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough midfielder also named captain at Valley Parade.

And he bagged his first goal in Bantams colours on Saturday afternoon, a sumptuous strike from outside the penalty area against Newport County, that got his side on the way to three points.

Other arrivals for Bradford City include: Emmanuel Osadebe (Walsall), Jake Young (Forest Green Rovers), Timi Odusina (Hartlepool United), Harry Chapman (Blackburn Rovers), Ryan East (Swindon Town), Harry Lewis (Southampton), Matthew Platt (Barrow), Jamie Walker (Hearts), Brad Halliday (Fleetwood Town), Vadaine Oliver (Gillingham), Kian Harratt (Huddersfield Town, Loan), Romoney Crichlow (Huddersfield Town, Loan), Scott Banks (Crystal Palace, Loan).

Last Time We Met

The U's were comfortable victors in the last meeting between the two. Taking a two-goal advantage at half time, courtesy of Myles Kenlock and Brendan Wiredu's efforts, Wayne Brown's side added the cherry on the cake with Freddie Sears' superb strike after the break.
