Wayne Brown gives his thoughts ahead of our first Carabao Cup match against Ipswich

8 August 2022

Colchester United boss Wayne Brown says the team will be prepared and ready for the U’s first Carabao Cup game as they take on Ipswich Town.

The U’s were held to a draw at the weekend against Carlisle, getting their first point of the 2022/23 season, thanks to a goal from Noah Chilvers.

Although Colchester United boss Wayne Brown couldn’t dwell on it for too long as the squad have a quick turnaround and have to be ready for Tuesday night as the U’s kick off their Carabao Cup campaign against local rivals, Ipswich.

“The next one that comes along is a local derby, it is a cup game and it is Ipswich, a lot is going to be made of that because of that fact. But it’s no different to any other game, we need to try and prepare and put information into the group, and ultimately try and win a game of football.”

When asked about how difficult squad selection will be, Brown was full of praise for his players.

“That’s what you want, you want your squad that you put together to be hungry, to show that desire to get the shirt, and as long as you’ve got that, you’ll always have a chance of picking up points and winning games of football.

It’s when the acceptance sinks in or people don’t think they’re in favour and they down tools. We’ve got none of them, they’re a really good group, and when called upon they go out there and try an execute a plan to the best of their ability, and that’s all you can ask for.”
