Mixed Results for Academy Sides

Heavy defeats for U21s, but victory for U18s.

7 December 2022

There have been mixed results recently for the two senior sides in the U's Academy.

It has been a busy few days for the Academy, with the U21s having two away matches in the space of four days and the U18s travelling up to Hull for their latest encounter.

Last Friday saw Dave Huzzey’s U21s side make their way down to St Marys to take on top flight Southampton in the Premier League Cup .

The young U’s took the lead in the game, but the Saints responded positively to go in at half-time 4-1 up.

Three further goals made it an emphatic 7-1 win for the hosts and secured their passage out of the Group stage with two matches to spare.

On Monday evening, it was another trip on the road for the U21s, with Everton hosting the U’s at Southport FC.

Unfortunately, it was another heavy defeat, with The Toffees also putting seven past the U’s in a 7-2 victory for the hosts.

There is a return match against Everton later this month, with the Premier League side travelling down to the JobServe Community Stadium on Monday 19th December.

There was better news from the U18s at the weekend though, with victory over Championship side Hull City.

An early rise saw Elliott Ward’s youngsters head up the A1 to the North East, and it was a satisfying trip home after a 4-1 win over the Tigers.

Two U16s, Alfie Newby and Rashaad Drysdale were on the scoresheet, along with T’aizo Marcel-Dilaver and Samson Uwandu.

The U18s play at Charlton Athletic next, on Saturday 10th December, before their FA Youth Cup tie at the JCS three days later on Tuesday 13th December.
