November's Community Champion Announced

Inspirational Nick Wookey is named our November Community Champion

13 December 2022

Everyone at CUFITC unanimously supported Nick Wookey as Community Champion for November.

Nick has been chosen as the community champion for November due to his remarkable achievements raising money for Farleigh Hospice. Nick and his family will be guests of Colchester United Football in the Community this Saturday for the fixture vs Salford City. Nick’s children will be walking out with the Colchester United team before kick off shortly after we present him with his award on the pitch prior to the game.

Nick has been raising money for the hospice in memory of his late wife, Susie, who died in February this year. Nick has taken part in various fundraising events and has managed to raise an amazing figure of £52,000 so far. Please read more about Nick’s fundraising and how you can donate below from his own words.

Nick Wookey said “In February this year, my wife Susie, passed away at Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford after losing her battle with bowel cancer.

"She spent her last 3 weeks in the care of the truly amazing doctors and nurses at the hospice and was looked after with so much care, compassion and support, I cannot thank them enough for what they did for her.

"Farleigh Hospice provides hospice care to people affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement across mid-Essex. It is a charity and so depends on the community for donations. It costs over £16,500 every day to provide their services.

"They continue to support myself and our two young sons, Flynn (9) and Nathaniel (7), through their Yo-Yo child bereavement support programme and Adult support sessions.

"Without people fundraising, Susie wouldn't have received the unbelievable care and treatment she did that made her so comfortable in those last few weeks.

"So I’m hoping I can help raise as much money as possible to help provide the same care for at least one person/family that are going through the most horrendous time that we have faced and continue to face.

"Since February my family, friends and I have taken part in various fundraising events, including - the Farleigh walk for life, London-Essex 100 mile bike ride, the London Marathon, 24 hour tennis-athon, cake sales, 100 mile run across the South Downs, 72 holes of golf in 24 hours and a charity ball in October for Farleigh's 40th birthday and, what would have been, Susie's 40th birthday.

"We are currently at over £52,000 and would love to make it to £60k by February of next year.”

If you would like to donate, any amount, you can donate to Farleigh through Susies Much Loved page at:
