Duo Named To Assist Brown

Dunne and Huzzey to take up first team duties

19 January 2022

Wayne Brown has named two new first team staff members that will assist him whilst he is the Interim Head Coach.

The former U's centre half has taken over the reins on a temporary basis, and has bought in a couple of coaches to work with him.

Dave Huzzey is the Academy Manager and will be working with Wayne and the first team as the club look to pull away from the two relegation places in League Two.

The second person coming in to assist Brown is a more familiar face to long standing Colchester United supporters, with Joe Dunne returning to the club that he holds a great deal of passion and affection for.

Dunne has played for, coached and managed the U's in the past, and came in to assist Brown for a spell last season as well.

Brown said of the duo: "I’ll be using a mix of both people who are already here, while also bringing people in."

"There needs to be a relationship with people who are already here, and that someone is Dave Huzzey.

"He’s a very good coach, very passionate about the role that he does and is very good at the role that he does. He’s a different voice for the lads and something that I think is needed.

"Externally, I’ll be bringing in Joe Dunne, and his record speaks for itself. The experiences that he has had in his managerial and coaching career are second to none.

"And more importantly, he knows the club. It’s very close to his heart, and he’s desperate to do well with the club, and it’s really important along with the service I’ve also given the club."

All three, alongside Goalkeeping Coach Darren Smith, will be preparing the squad for Saturday's game at Salford City.
