CUFITC Delighted To Announce Three New Projects

Three new projects in Tendring funded as part of The Community Safety partnership

14 January 2022

Colchester United Football in the Community are delighted to announce the introduction of three new projects to be delivered exclusively in Tendring. The following programmes are funded by Tendring District Council as part of The Community Safety partnership.

Many Minds one Heart £(5000)

Many Hearts, One Mind is the motto of Essex and fittingly the name of our new mental health programme. The aim of this project is to engage with young people and understand what mental health is, the impact it can have and highlighting methods of self-care and wellbeing to ensure mental health is destigmatised for young people. We present our sessions via power-point presentation with plenty of opportunity for honest discussions and feedback. The project is delivered in secondary schools as well as in community settings through our other in house programmes (such as Premier League Kicks). Many Minds One Heart will take place across Tendring and is aimed at engaging those who may have socio-economic barriers to health and wellbeing sessions.

Unite Our Communities (£5000)

Unite Our Communities engages both primary and secondary school pupils (particularly those who may be deemed more vulnerable in transitional year groups) into discussions and workshop activities that cover topics such as – Extremism, Radicalisation, Hate Crime & Prejudice. By directly addressing these issues with young people in a positive environment we provide the opportunity for freedom of speech and exploration of ideas in a constructive and supportive environment.

Fly Like An Eagle (£5,500)

Fly like an Eagle is our early intervention programme, engaging pupils from three primary schools across Tendring. Colchester United Football in the Community provide 1-1 support for young people in order to help them overcome barriers they may face to positive engagement, behaviour and connectivity to their communities. Our staff act as mentors and positive role models for young people guiding them towards positive choices to increase their levels of attainment, boost confidence and help to support the achievement of their future aspirations. Our provision is delivered via a mix of sit down mentoring and informal sporting provision. We are currently delivering this project in three primary schools in Tendring, the impact we are already making is plain to see and we can’t wait to continue this great work!

Community Development Manager, Jake Mullinder said “It’s fantastic to be given the opportunity to carry out such worthwhile work across Tendring. The funding granted to us has already made such a difference to so many young people.

Mason, who attends Cann Hall school said “I have really enjoyed playing football outside. It has really helped especially when I have been feeling angry, the sessions have calmed me down. The sessions have helped my confidence. The coaches at Colchester United are awesome.”
