Colchester United have signed John Akinde.
The experienced striker has penned a contract that keeps him in north Essex until the summer of 2024.
He and his previous club Gillingham have mutually agreed to terminate his contract at Priestfield, allowing him to sign for the U's with immediate effect.
Interim Head Coach Wayne Brown said of the thirty two year old: "I think he'll be a great asset for us."
"He will give us a different dynamic that I think we have been missing so far this season, a presence and experience - but more importantly, we're hoping that he's going to bring us goals."
Akinde will wear the number twenty four shirt, and is expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday's game, subject to the relevent paperwork clearances.
