U's boss excited to be back at home

Colchester United will be back at home for the first game at the JobServe Community Stadium of 2022 on Saturday afternoon.

And after over a month without a game in North Essex, Hayden Mullins is excited to get out in front of a home crowd against Rochdale on Saturday afternoon.

The U's have struggled in the latest two league games, with 3-0 and 3-1 losses at Walsall and Crawley Town respectively, but put in a far better performance against Sutton United on Tuesday evening, and were unlucky not to take more from the 2-1 defeat in South London.

That performance, albeit a negative result, will have given Mullins' players confidence going into Saturday's game against a Rochdale side that sit just above Colchester United in the Sky Bet League Two table.

"We know about the players that they've got, having played them earlier in the season. They're a good side and they move the ball well, and they've got a lot of pace in the team as well.

"I think we were unlucky not to get a win at their place earlier in the season, but it is a good game for us to have now. We haven't played a home league game since November, so it's been a long time.

"All of our games recently have been on the road, with a fair bit of travelling so it will be nice to get back home and start attacking the game."

Speaking about Tom Dallison, the first signing of the January transfer window, Mullins said he was a good addition to the squad with packed schedule of games coming up, with the club also looking at other signings.

"Tom is one that we had identified early on and he's one that has been on our radar for a while. He's a good defender, at the right age, so we were delighted to get that one over the line.

"It was one of the areas that we looked at, to have cover and people that can play in different positions. With all the games that we have, we are going to pick up injuries and to have that extra depth is good.

"We've got some other bits that we are looking at, in other areas of the pitch including attacking options, and hopefully we'll see something happening soon."
