Interim U's boss wants good start at Salford

21 January 2022

Wayne Brown will oversee his first game in interim charge of the U's on Saturday after being appointed successor to Hayden Mullins.

Brown was given the interim position for a period last season, and has asked former U's player and manager Joe Dunne, and Dave Huzzey to assist him in his time in charge.

And the former U's defender will be hoping he can turn the tide for the U's and gain some much-needed points on the road at Salford City this weekend.

The interim boss admits it will be a tough challenge, but one his is looking forward to.

"Having done it twice previously for the club, I can draw on those experiences to try and benefit from them. It's never easy when you come into a job because it means something isn't right, and obviously we find ourselves at the wrong end of the table.

"There's no excuses, we've had a couple of days to go in and prep the lads, and we will do that to the best of our ability.

"We're here for here and now, we aren't looking any further than Saturday. It's our job to get a reaction out of the lads and to get that bounce in the performance and ultimately give ourselves the best chance to get three points on Saturday.

"It's not nice when you're struggling for results. The mentality of the group is probably not in a good place with the run that they're on, but that's our job to lift the group - mentally more than anything else because they are a good group.

"It's down to us now to get the best out of the group, knowing full well that they're more than capable of putting good performances and results together."
