John Akinde put pen-to-paper on a deal at Colchester United on Thursday afternoon, with the experienced forward expected to be in the matchday eighteen for the game against Swindon Town.
Akinde has been linked with the U's on numerous occasions in the past, but finally joined the club this week on a deal that runs until the end of the 2023/24 season.
With almost 200 career goals to his name, the former Gillingham, Lincoln City and Barnet striker is hoping to hit the ground running, starting with this weekend's game against Swindon Town in Sky Bet League Two.
"It's a great club and I've been aware of the interest for a while - I've always enjoyed watching them or playing against them and I've got a good relationship with a few of the boys already here at the club.
"I know the league position that we're in and I want to help. It's a bit of a surprise that we are where we are, but I'm here to help with the experience that I have. Last time I was in the league, we got promoted (with Lincoln City), so hopefully I can bring that to the table soon, but I'm looking forward to helping out."
