Colchester United defender Luke Chambers has said the U’s will be fully prepared for Saturday’s opener against Northampton.
After pre-season the U’s are looking to get out of the blocks quickly as they target a positive start to the season against a strong opposition. Chambers has said that while pre-season can be competitive there’s always that edge missing that League games bring.
Colchester United head to Sixfields to take on Northampton in the first game of the 2022/23 season, and Chambers said the U’s are really looking forward to getting going.
“You try and get all the preparation done as quickly as you possibly can in the first few weeks of pre-season but for me it’s all about Saturday now and getting into the proper stuff. Pre-season friendlies can be as competitive as you want them to be but for me there is always that edge missing.
“Ultimately all our focus, since the gaffer took over, really has always been on ourselves, we’ll have our way of approaching each game and we’ll be fully ready come three o’clock on Saturday and we can’t wait for it.
“When push comes to shove they have their strengths and I imagine they’ll be playing to them, we had a competitive game at home against them last year and the away result wasn’t what we wanted, but we were still well in that game until a couple of goals.
“But no we’re looking forward to I and we can’t wait to get started.”
