Match officials for the season opener

The match officials for the U's first game of the season have been confirmed.

Martin Woods will be the man in the middle for the first game of the season at Sixfields on Saturday afternoon. 

Martin Woods was the man in the middle for thirty games over the course of last season, while mostly taking charge of National League matches and U23 games.

He handed out 107 yellow cards and five red cards during the 2021/22 season.

While not being involved in any U’s games last season he was the referee for one League Two game, Walsall vs Carlisle, who the U’s host at the JobServe on the 6th of August.

The linesmen are Garry Maskell and Declan O’Shea.

Garry Maskell was an assistant referee in 27 games last year in the FA Cup, League Cup, League One, League Two and the EFL Trophy.

Declan O’Shea was involved in the refereeing set up 32 times last season, he was also the fourth official the last time we were at Sixfields in February, this time he’ll be running the line. He was mainly involved in League One games last season with a handful of League Two games under his belt as well. 

Fourth Official – Anthony Da Costa

The Fourth Official for Saturday’s game was involved in 34 matches last season ranging across the EFL, his only match that involved the U’s last season was when we welcomed Salford to the JobServe in October.
