Wiredu Heads To Fleetwood

U’s midfielder signs for League One Club

21 June 2022

Brendan Wiredu has signed for League One Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.

The twenty-two-year-old combative midfielder initially joined the club on a loan deal from Charlton Athletic at the start of the 2019/20 season, before putting pen-to-paper on a permanent deal with the U’s early in 2021.

After just half a season with Colchester United, Wiredu had collected the runner up spot in the Player and Young Player of the Season awards in 2021, and was also one of the leading contenders for the award this season.

Leaving for League One Fleetwood Town, Brendan departs with seventy-five appearances to his name across two spells with the club, netting three times.

Colchester United Director of Football Tony Humes said: “Brendan was always one to wear his heart on his sleeve and gave everything he could for the club.

“The move to Fleetwood presents a good opportunity for Brendan to test himself at a higher level and we would like to thank him for his efforts in a Colchester United shirt, and wish him well for his future footballing career."
