Remembering the former U's player and scout

27 June 2022

Colchester United were saddened to hear of the passing of former player and employee of the club, Paul Dyer, over the weekend.

Dyer first joined Colchester United in 1975, and instantly became a regular in the Fourth Division side, playing a good number of games in the following season to help gain promotion.

Also part of the side that played in big cup ties against Derby, Leeds and Manchester United, Dyer would go on to make a grand total of 158 appearances for the U's between 1975 and 1980.

After his departure from Layer Road, he had spells with Gravesend and Northfleet, Chelmsford, and Tiptree, before returning to the club in 1991 as chief scout.

Remaining with the U's until 2009, Paul gave almost twenty-five years service to the club.

The thoughts of everyone at Colchester United are with Paul's family and friends at this sad time.
