Sam Hornby Rejoins U's

Goalkeeper back in Essex after Bantams departure

28 June 2022

Former Colchester United loanee, Sam Hornby, has completed a permanent switch to the U's for an undisclosed fee from Bradford City.

The twenty-seven-year-old shot-stopper has made the permanent switch to North Essex, on a two-year contract with Wayne Brown's side - he becomes the second signing for the club after the arrival of Emyr Huws earlier.

Hornby enjoyed a successful stint with the club last season, with eight appearances and battling for the number one jersey with Shamal George.

His heroics between the sticks ensured the U's kept a clean sheet on the final day against Hartlepool United in May, and he says he is looking forward to some more healthy competition for the position this season.

"Both Shamal and I showed that last year with our performances. In my opinion we both did quite well, so I'm looking forward to it going forward.

"You have to make sure you drive eachother forward, and that bodes well for the football club."

You can watch the full interview with Sam on Col U TV.

Sam's arrival is subject to approval from the usual relevant bodies.
