Tommy Smith is aiming to help New Zealand to secure a spot at this year's Qatar World Cup later today, with the All Whites' play-off game.
New Zealand will be facing off against Costa Rica in Doha at 7pm this evening, and Tommy Smith will be hoping he can help his country to make it to a second World Cup in twelve years.
The All Whites successfully navigated their way through the Oceania qualifying stage earlier this year, setting up tonight's fixture against the Central American side, who sit seventy places ahead in the FIFA World Rankings.
The U's Captain played the first half of New Zealand's first warm up game, a 1-0 defeat to Peru last Sunday, and then the second half of their goalless draw to Oman on Thursday, and will be hoping to make his forty-ninth cap later today.
