U's Celebrate International Women's Day

Port Vale game included events for female fans

8 March 2022

The U's are delighted to celebrate International Women's Day 2022, showcasing the good work from Football In The Community on Saturday.

The U's game on Saturday coincided with the EFL's Women's Weekend campaign, ahead of International Women's Day.

And the JobServe Community Stadium hosted a number of activities for female fans and players who have been working hard in and around Colchester.

There was a two-page feature in the matchday programme with interviews from Girls Development Centre players, and Football in the Community Coach, Niamh Gamble.

Niamh also featured in an interview on the Col U TV pre-match show, with more than forty players from the Girls Development Centre forming a guard of honour for the players to walk through.

And after the game, the squads from the Girls Development Centre from age groups U8s to U16s participated in small sided games on the pitch at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester United Football in the Community offers a wide range of provision for female footballers for ages 4-16. Each week we delivery sessions to over 400 females through open access, development centre and school programmes.

We are keen to now explore the demand to expand this offer to post 16 players, and therefore are gathering information in relation to this. Please share with any interested parties so we can capture as much information as possible at this stage.
