'The lads aren't far away from getting a result'

Wayne Brown has insisted a win isn't far away for his side as they prepare for the visit of Port Vale on Saturday afternoon.

After Tuesday's draw against Leyton Orient, where the visitors snatched a point with an injury time equaliser, Wayne Brown's side will have to prepare again for Saturday's test against play-off chasing Port Vale.

The U's will want to get a win to complete their home quartet of league games, and this weekend presents the perfect opportunity for Brown's side to do it.

"If anyone was at the game on Tuesday night, I'm sure they would have gone away in a positive frame of mind in the way that we played and the way that we created chances. And we have to build on that.

"Saturday will be a tough game, but I don't think we can look at the table and think that because they are doing well, it will be a tough game - they are all tough games.

"I'd be in a far worse frame of mind if we weren't playing well, and the law of averages over a season, if you're playing well, you'll get wins. If we keep getting into those good areas, we will score goals and we need to keep drumming that into the lads.

"The lads are performing well, but we have competition for places. The squad will be used and we'll pick a team to try and win the game."
