Colchester United youngsters Chay Cooper and Harry Beadle have signed new contracts to stay with the club for the 2022/23 season.
Chay Cooper scored on his EFL debut in the U's final game of the season on the road at Hartlepool United. And his sumptuous strike was subsequently voted the Colchester United goal of the month, with the twenty-year-old completing a successful couple of weeks by penning a new deal at the club.
Cooper, who has made five appearances for Colchester United, said: "The main aim this season was just to get as many games as I can, but I feel like my form and consistency has been very good.
"I've been very happy and privileged this season the club has given me as many chances to play as many games as I have, and I like to think I've earned my contract this season.
"Hopefully I'll be spending more time with the first time this year. The players and staff have been great for getting advice, and I've matured on and off the pitch based on what I've learned from other players."
Nineteen-year-old centre back Harry Beadle made his debut for Colchester United in the Papa John's Trophy against Gillingham earlier this season, but has mainly been a fixture in the U23s squad.
Beadle has captained the youth side on a number of occasions, and is looking to get some more first team game time with his new contract.
"I'm buzzing to get it done, and I'm really excited for next season to try and push on and try and fight for a place in the team.
"I'd not had an experience of first team football before last season, so it really helped me being around the boys on a gameday, and now I feel like I've seen it and I want to get more.
"Luke (Chambers), Tom (Eastman), and Tommy (Smith) always speak to me and help me get through it with the game being more physical in men's football."
