Sears keen to add to goal tally

6 May 2022

Colchester United's top scorer Freddie Sears is looking for more goals in the final game of the season.

He is currently on seventeen for the season, his best tally since the 2014/5 campaign.

He scored fourteen for the U's in the first half of that season, before joining Ipswich Town and addding another nine to his tally.

This season has also seen him make over fifty appearaances for the first time since that year, when he played fifty two times.

Should he be involved at Hartlepool on Saturday, he'll beat that mark by one, and is hoping he'll also add to his seventeen goals.

On Thursday afternoon, he said: "It's a long trek, but hopefully we can go up there and get the win - and a few goals as well will be nice."

"To score two last weekend was great, I hadn't scored two in a game this season so it was due.

"I really should have reached twenty this season, but I am delighted to have got seventeen with a game to go to get more.

"You start the season looking to get ten as quick as you can, then you aim for fifteen and then twenty.

"I'm delighted to have reached seventeen in a season that we've found difficult as a team, and to be fifth in the League Two scoring charts shows that I've been doing something right.

"I'd swap them all for us being at the top of the table though, and I'm already looking forward to a better one next season for the team and getting more goals and more appearances."
