Thoughts from the U's midfielder ahead of tonight's contest

11 October 2022

Colchester United aim to make it out of the Group Stages of the Papa Johns Trophy against Gillingham later this evening.

A point is enough for the U’s to progress as winners of Southern Group A, a result that would also earn Colchester United a home tie in the knockout stages of the competition.

And midfielder Luke Hannant has said that they will head to Kent full of confidence after buying in to the processes of the new Head Coach.

“It’s a cup that we want to do well in, and we’ve got two good results in it now. The whole squad has bought in to what the Gaffer is doing.

“Every single player could be playing out there at the moment, everyone’s training really well and working really hard, and they’re all being really positive.

“I know it’s hard sometimes when you’re not in the squad, but everyone’s buying in and staying positive, and there’s a good environment around the place as well which can only lead to good things.”
