After claiming a dramatic late win against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday evening, Matt Bloomfield will be aiming to get his first league win as U’s boss this weekend.

Tom Eastman and John Akinde secured Bloomfield’s first victory as Colchester United boss in the Papa Johns Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Harrogate Town are the next opponents for the U’s, who are back in league action this weekend, and Head Coach Bloomfield says he wants players and supporters to be at their best again at the JobServe Community Stadium.

“The energy in the ground from the supporters, and not just the starting eleven that were picked, the subs and those not involved were joining in with the celebrations; that togetherness is going to be imperative for us to move forward.

“For me, that’s the culture of the football club, the togetherness is absolutely everything and if we get that right, which I hope we’re on the right lines to doing, then we can move this place forward.

“I’ve got ideas of how I want our football team to move forward. With any team, if you’re not winning games, there must be something missing. But I respect the work that Wayne’s done here, I worked with him at Ipswich as a kid, as well as Joe and Dave working here.

“But the energy and enthusiasm the boys showed on Tuesday evening, if we can carry that forward, it’ll give us a good chance of picking up some points.”
