Match Preview | Wayne Brown

Thoughts from the Head Coach ahead of this weekend's match

8 September 2022

Wayne Brown has been speaking ahead of this weekend's trip to Barrow.

The U's boss guided his side to a win over Brighton U21 on Tuesday evening in the Papa Johns Trophy, and is now looking to add another three points in the league against Barrow on Saturday.

Brown admitted it would be a tough test against an in-form opposition, with the Bluebirds occupying an automatic promotion spot, but said the performance on Tuesday would give his team a lot of confidence.

“There were some encouraging signs in the opportunities we created in the game. We created a number of real good opportunities, and that’s a real positive sign for the lads.

“We’ve got some strength in depth now, and as I’ve eluded to the last couple of weeks. We’ve tried to create that, tried to create the competition with places, and I feel that we’ve got that now. Any successful team has that option.

“Barrow are one of the clubs that have had a bit of a turnaround in personnel in regards to their playing staff – they have hit the ground running, got off to a good start. But like any team that we play home or away, they have deficiencies, and areas where we can exploit.

“It’s down to us as a staff to identify those, put the right information in the lads on the training pitch, and give ourselves the best chance of getting a result.”
