CUFITC - Inspired By The Lionesses

Lionesses' victory inspires new generation of young players

15 September 2022

Following the Lionesses' historical victory in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, our Colchester United Girls Development Centre and Emerging Talent Centre players are more motivated than ever.

CUFITC provided once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to some of our female participants.  Our Girls Development Centre players, female volunteers, and Female Football and Education programme attendees, were given match tickets to various games throughout the tournament.

It has been fantastic to see so many of our participants from Colchester United Women and Girls pathways, enjoying memorable experiences.  The Lionesses are excellent role models for our community of female footballers; if you can see it, you can be it.

Colchester United Emerging Talent Centre U11 player, Maddison, was lucky enough to attend some of the matches, including the magical final.  Here are a few of Maddison’s thoughts on the tournament:

Q - What was your favourite memory from the Euros?

A - Chloe Kelly's goal in the final to gain the win. The noise of the crowd was electric.

Q – What was your favourite thing about watching football in the stadiums?

A - Seeing the Lionesses live and the atmosphere in the stadiums

Q – Who was your favourite player in the Euros?

A - Leah Williamson- she captained the team to victory

Q – How have the Euros and the Lionesses inspired you?

A - I've had my heart set on playing for England since I was 6. This has given me more drive to achieve my goal.

Do you want to be a future Lioness?  Or have you been inspired by our Lionesses to play football for the first time?  Whatever stage you are at in your football journey, we have an opportunity for you at Colchester United!  For more details on how you can get involved, please email: Niamh.gamble@colchesterunited.net
