Football In The Community Update

Community activity to continue

9 September 2022

Colchester United Football in the Community, (CUFITC), have provided the following update following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II.

With affiliated grassroots football pausing, CUFITC have been asked by some participants whether our community activity will be cancelled.

Whilst this is of course a decision we have taken time to consider, we have concluded there remain people in our communities requiring support and therefore our activities will continue.

This is supported by the National Youth Agency who have issued the following guidance:

"The NYA has been asked for guidance on how youth providers should operate during this period.

Youth services and projects bring young people and communities together to provide support, spaces for discussion and the opportunity for communities to be together.

For some young people, their youth project is their lifeline, or a safe space to be themselves and be with their peers.

As such, the NYA advises that it is a local decision how to act during this period of national mourning.

It is appropriate for youth sector activities to remain open during this period to support young people and their communities."

We will of course again consider what activity takes place on the day of the State Funeral once further details are issued by Government.

Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the Royal Family at this difficult time.
