Colchester United have signed Matty Longstaff on loan.
The Newcastle United midfielder will be with the U's until January, subject to the usual paperwork approval.
Longstaff started his career with the Premier League side, and scored on his league debut against Manchester United.
A successful spell at Mansfield saw him score six goals in sixteen League Two games during the second half of last season.
His Mansfield side just missed out on promotion to League One, losing to Port Vale in the Play-Off Final at Wembley.
He returned to Newcastle for pre-season training this summer, but has been snapped up by the U's for the first half of the season.
Along with the other deadline day signing Kwesi Appiah, Longstaff will be available to face Hartlepool on Saturday.
