Colchester United Community Foundation engaged 576 pupils last term, in the Joy of moving programme, which aims to get children moving and teach them about the importance of healthy living.
Having been established for over seven years, Ferrero UK's corporate social responsibility project, the Joy of Moving programme has been developed and delivered in tandem with the EFL Trust.
Colchester United Community Foundation are passionate about delivering this funded programme, which is cost effective and makes an impact in our local schools. The aim is to develop key skills in four areas:
- Physical fitness
- Motor coordination
- Cognitive functions & creativity
- Life skills
One of the teachers at Home Farm Primary School in Colchester told us,
"The Year 5 pupils have thoroughly enjoyed the Joy of Moving Programme this half term. It has been a fantastic opportunity for them to learn about physical activity and a healthy lifestyle in a fun and active way. I couldn't recommend the programme highly enough."
We deliver the programme in two formats, Move & Learn and the Joy of moving festivals. Move & Learn is designed for children aged 9 and 10 and we engage the young people through fun. Incorporating challenges for home, we are looking to encourage schools to adopt the strategies in the longer term.
The Move & Learn programme runs for 9 hours over six weeks and the school and pay £1.00 per booklet only. The data collected before and after the programme demonstrates that children feel that the six week sessions give them new ways to stay active.
The Joy of moving festivals are full or half day events, which engage the whole school to celebrate being active. They are a great way to unite the school community and inspire everyone to think about healthy living habits.
