Match Preview | Crewe Alexandra (H)

U’s aiming for three big points against the Railwaymen

5 April 2023

Ben Garner’s side return to the JobServe Community Stadium three days after taking on Stevenage on Good Friday.

Colchester United will be looking to secure three points against Easter Monday’s opponents following a battling draw on the road at Stevenage on Good Friday.

Noah Chilvers will hope to continue his good form and get back to scoring following his Goal of the Month nominated strike against Leyton Orient.

Freddie Sears will be hoping for a second consecutive start after his first half performance against Stevenage, while John Akinde and Samson Tovide will also be battling for a place.

The Opposition
Lee Bell’s side come into the game after a solid 3-0 win against Barrow on Good Friday, courtesy of goals from Dan Agyei and Chris Long.

The Railwaymen are currently sitting sixteenth after two consecutive wins against Doncaster and Barrow, with little to play for in the final six games of the season.

Crewe bolster a strong group of players, attacker, Courtney Baker-Richardson who scored against Doncaster, Daniel Agyei (Pictured below) and Luke Offord are three examples of this. Offord is the club captain and at twenty-two years of age that is an incredible achievement. He controls the team from centre back brilliantly and has a lot of experience despite his age.

Agyei is the top goal scorer by a long way for Crewe, he’s got twelve goals and three assists for the Railwaymen and Baker-Richardson in second has eight.

Young goalkeeper James Beadle, brother of our own Harry Beadle, didn’t feature the last time we played Crewe due to making the move from Brighton in January. Despite being young, he’s a great talent and has already had international call ups to youth level England sides – he also kept a clean sheet in the game against Doncaster.

Last Time we Met

The U’s were beaten by Crewe Alexandra in November, a single goal from the top scorer, Daniel Agyei was enough for the home side to claim all three points, despite the U’s having six shots on target over the course of the ninety.
