Colchester United Community Foundation hosted a range of half term activities and events last week. We welcomed children, parents and Colchester United players to create an enjoyable holiday experience for all of our participants.
Our free ActiVate programme, which takes place at Shrub End, Maldon and Greenstead welcomed 390 children. Participants were engaged and enthusiastic as they took part in cycling and African drumming workshops, as well as various sporting activities. We are grateful to our partners at Active Essex for the opportunity to reach so many families in the local area. Here is a snapshot of our ActiVate programme at Colchester United Community Foundation:
Soccer camps flourished with 505 children aged 4-14 attending. Eddie the Eagle was spotted a few times during the week and he received a very warm welcome! Eighteen Colchester United youth team scholars supported our delivery to aid the development of their coaching.
Thank you to Bradley Ihiovien for visiting Shrub End and holding Q&A sessions with all of the groups.
Twenty-five children attended a free referee workshop. Thank you to Will Finnie, who is a professional referee for his time and to the Essex County FA for their help in organising the event.
Half term fixtures took place as follows and an excellent effort was put in by all involved.
- 60 Girls from our Emerging Talent Centre (ETC) played fixtures with the Essex RTC
- 60 Girls from our Girls Development Centre (GDC) played away fixtures with Wycombe.
- 160 Boys from our Boys Development Centre (BDC) played fixtures against Chelsea and Norwich
Thank you to Noah Chilvers and Will Greenidge for coming to see our BDC players last week.
