U's boss wants his side focused on the challenge ahead

24 January 2023

Colchester United Head Coach Matt Bloomfield has said he wants his side to be fully focused on the upcoming games, despite Saturday’s disappointing defeat to Gillingham.

First-half goals from David Tutonda and Tom Nichols ended the U’s three-game winning run on Saturday afternoon. But after a good run of games for Colchester United, Matt Bloomfield wants his side to remain positive and focused on the challenge ahead.

“With any of the results we’ve had since I’ve been here we’ve tried to really be analytical on how we’ve gone about our post-match stuff. One of the things I’ve not enjoyed about football over the years is when you win, you’re amazing, when you lose, you’re terrible.

“I think there’s more of a process to it, and of course we’re here to win. But there’s a method of how you get there, so we’ve presented to the boys about some of the good bits that we did; and we’ve spoken about some of the bits we want to improve on.

“But we can’t look at the past too much. Our eyes have to be firmly forward, so we’ve also spoken a lot about Salford and the strengths they bring and the weaknesses they have. They’ve got some really good players that we have to be aware of, but we’re all prepared and ready to go.”
