Matt Bloomfield isn't taking anything for granted as the U's head up to the North East this weekend.

Recent performances have been much improved, but Bloomfield insists that it will be a tough challenge against Keith Curle's Hartlepool side.

He said at Thursday's pre-match press conference: "We have to go there and back ourselves, but one thing we can't do is get complacent after a couple of good performances - and we certainly won't be doing that."

"We know the threats that they offer, and we know that they had a good home win against Rochdale last week. We totally respect the job that Keith Curle has done and the team that he has got up there.

"It'll be a tough prospect for us, the crowd will get behind them up there but we have to believe in what we are doing at the moment. We have to keep those performances going and believe in ourselves."

The last three away trips for the U's have yielded nine points, and Bloomfield feels that it has given the squad more confidence. He wants them to take that into this weekend's game, along with the performance in the second half of Tuesday's game against Salford City.

He said: "That second half on Tuesday was the best that we've played since I've been here. And after going so long without winning away from home, it was nice to get three on the bounce. I think the lads have a new-found belief away from home and a believe in what they're doing."

"I hope they can take that belief, and the confidence from those three victories, into this one. I can't overstate though that Hartlepool is going to be a really tough test. We'll have to be on our game, it's be a stern test, but we've prepared well for what we want to do."
