Loanee Matty Longstaff has returned to parent club Newcastle United.
The midfielder joined the U's on loan at the end of the summer transfer window in August, but has been hampered by injuries.
A hamstring issue put him out of action for a number of weeks during October and November, after making seven appearances in the early part of his time in north Essex.
Then he suffered what looked like a serious knee injury after coming on as a late substitute, playing his tenth game for the U's, in the Boxing Day win at Gillingham.
He returned to the North East for a scan and to be looked after by his parent club Newcastle United, and will remain with them to complete his rehab.
We wish Matty all the best for that rehab, and in his future career.
