Colchester United have secured the services of nineteen-year-old defender Nico Lawrence on loan from Southampton FC for the 2023/24 campaign, subject to approval from the EFL and FA..
Nico becomes the U’s second signing of the summer following Ellis Iandolo’s arrival on Friday afternoon – and has joined the squad on their pre-season training camp in Southern Spain.
The defender first joined Southampton FC in 2021 after impressing on a trial with the Saints, and progressed through their B Team before being loaned out to National League side Torquay United last season.
And Lawrence impressed once again in his short time with the Gulls, collecting two Player of the Month awards alongside the club’s Young Player of the Season award.
