Ben Garner will take charge of his first match as U’s Head Coach tomorrow afternoon when his side host Stockport County.
Garner, alongside Scott Marshall and Graham Stack, will be in the dugout looking to get off to a good start in North Essex with the play-off chasing Hatters making up a competitive opposition for the U’s.
And after a full week of training over at Florence Park, the new Head Coach is looking forward to kicking off his Colchester United premiership on Saturday afternoon.
“I’ve been impressed with the group overall, in terms of the application and the intensity that they’ve shown. Hopefully that will translate into Saturday’s game.
“We’ve got some really important principles into the lads. We’ve started the process; we’re going to work towards it every day, and hopefully it will have a good impact in terms of the result on Saturday.
“There’s a really good platform here after what’s gone on before so we want to build on that, and make sure we’re not going away from the strengths of the group too much. We want to emphasise being positive and being brave, and that’s how we’re going to play.
“Stockport had a good promotion last year, and it’s taken them a little bit of time to get going. But certainly in the second half of the season, they’ve been one of the strongest sides. We know it’ll be a tough test, but we’ve prepared well and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
