Ben Garner speaks ahead of Newport County.

Colchester United Head Coach, Ben Garner, has spoken about the run in, his plans for next season and our upcoming opponents.

The U’s welcome Newport County to the JobServe Community Stadium this Saturday for our third meeting of the season. U’s boss Ben Garner has gone into detail about how he believes they will play and what the game is going to be like for his players.

Garner also mentions the run in to the end of the season and how he believes that results are on the way if the performances continue the way they are. He has also mentioned that sloppy mistakes seem to be the reason for dropping points and if the lads can keep concentration games will be won.

“We’re not being complacent in anyway shape or form, we’ve been very close to winning games over the last few weeks and I think there’s small details and fine margins that are the difference in the games, we want to win those games and we want to get mathematically safe as quickly as we possibly can. Not so that we can relax, but so we know that we’re safe and then we can start looking ahead and building into what we would want to be a more positive season next year.

“They [Newport] were good last season, a strong side and just sort of fell away towards the end and didn’t quite make the play offs but I remember playing away at their place last season and it was a really good game.

“They’ve done well since Graham’s gone in, he’s got them organised, very hard working, like you say they all put in a shift for each other, very committed, really effective off set pieces. They’re really strong, a lot of their goals have come from long throw ins and their set pieces and they’ve got threats within the side so I think we know what type of game it’s going to be from how they will play, we know we need to stand up to that and it’s going to be an intense game physically, but we also need to try and make the game more of the type of game that we want to play and impose what we want onto the game to make it suit us rather than suit them.”
