Fiacre Kelleher could line up against his ex-club on Saturday when the U’s make the trip up to Bradford. The centre back has started life brilliantly in Essex, scoring on his home debut against Salford and then the game after at Hartlepool.
The centre back has started life brilliantly in Essex, scoring on his home debut against Salford and then the game after at Hartlepool. Fiacre Kelleher has spoken about his week as a U’s player with the new Head Coach, Ben Garner, signing and how it’s nice to have a bit of direction after last week.
Kelleher mentions his old club but has said that he’s not thinking about his time there, just the job that the U’s have to do on Saturday. The defender also mentions that with the squad’s confidence building, he’s expecting to see that missing cutting edge to start to come back and the lads to start scoring goals.
“It’s nice to have someone come in and take over, it’s all been a bit up in the air since Matt left unexpectedly. It’s good to have a bit of direction now I think and hopefully we can get back to winning ways.
“I had a good time there, [Bradford] obviously I didn’t play many games but the staff and the players there are good and I had an enjoyable time, but I won’t be focusing a lot on that. It’s are about us, we’re in a place where we need to go there and try and get three points and get ourselves moving up that table again, so for me the focus is just on Colchester.
“Confidence is a big thing at the moment, we’re not scoring a whole lot of goals. We’ve had some really good play and we’ve just not had that cutting edge, that final bit where you just stick the ball in the back of the net. Once that comes then we’ll start to seem a lot more confident and we’ll get a lot more chances and the goals will come.”
