Premier League Primary Stars Spring Term Review

28 March 2023

The Spring Term has been another successful one for the Premier League Primary Stars Programme here at the Community Foundation. In this term alone, we have worked with nearly 400 pupils and teachers across a range of different subjects, from; English, PSHE and PE Teacher Support.

World Book Day was also a big success, with over 120 pupils taking part in a creative writing session around the missing World Cup in 1966. There were some great ideas from pupils about how the World Cup Trophy went missing and some even more imaginative ideas about how it was found!  As part of this event, we also distributed over 150 books to, two of our partner schools allowing them to stock up the school library or, give to pupils who have limited access to books at home.

In February, we also hosted a local U11’s Girls Football tournament, which 10 teams attended from across Colchester, Clacton, Harwich and Chelmsford.  It was great to see so many girls accessing football and playing with smiles on their faces.  Ultimately, Kelvedon St Mary’s Academy went on to win the local Tournament and competed in Charlton at the Regional Finals at the beginning of March. The team did fantastically well, finishing 4th and only missing out on qualification for the National Final by one place.

Essex Wildlife Trust very kindly supported two weeks’ delivery of one of our Social Action projects.  Year 6 pupils in a local primary school have been looking at making their school grounds nature friendly in a bid to be more environmentally sustainable.  Lots of ideas were shared around how this could be done and the pupils settled on putting up some birds boxes to encourage birds to nest.

Everyone at Colchester United Community Foundation would like to say a big well done to everyone who has taken part in Primary Stars this term!
